Happy Halloween to everyone spending tonight under a blanket, holding a warm drink, and voluntarily walking a fictional character into a building they would cross the street to avoid in real life.
Cozy gamers have some deeply questionable survival instincts.
We’re observant. We’re resourceful. We can manage a farm, decorate a house, and remember which person in a village hates a particular vegetable.
Unfortunately, put something collectible behind a suspicious door and all that judgment disappears.
Here are seven reasons a cozy gamer might be the person everyone is shouting at during a horror movie.
1) We Would Buy the Obviously Haunted House
The windows are broken. There’s a stain nobody will explain. The estate agent keeps saying “original features” instead of answering questions.
But did you see the fireplace?
We would absolutely stand in that hallway discussing paint colors while a door slowly opened behind us. Someone would mention the cold spot, and we’d say it probably needs insulation.
The ghost would have to appear in person before we stopped measuring for a sofa.
2) We Would Follow the Suspicious Animal
A strange little creature appears at the edge of the woods, looks directly at us, and disappears between the trees.
Everyone sensible goes home. We assume this is the beginning of a friendship.
It could have six eyes and human teeth. We’d still be checking whether we have anything it might like to eat.
The police would eventually find a note saying, “Went to see if he likes berries.”
3) We Would Search the Entire House Before Leaving
The front door is open. Escape is possible. Someone is shouting that we need to go.
But there’s one room upstairs we haven’t checked.
You cannot expect a person who has spent years clearing every corner of a map to leave a closed cupboard unexplored. What if there’s a collectible? What if this is our only opportunity?
The killer doesn’t have to catch us. They can just put an unopened chest at the end of the hallway and wait.
4) We Would Assume the Creepy Stranger Has a Quest
A stranger in the woods asks for three mushrooms, a lock of hair, and something that belonged to a dead relative.
We don’t ask why.
We ask whether the mushrooms need to be a specific quality.
By the time somebody explains that we’re participating in a ritual, we’ve already completed two objectives and become irritated that the last item only appears when it rains.
5) We Would Try to Fix the Place
Most horror characters see an abandoned building and reluctantly enter it.
A cozy gamer sees an abandoned building and starts mentally removing the weeds.
There could be claw marks on the walls. We’d wonder whether they disappear after the first renovation. Something could be moving in the basement. We’d hope clearing it unlocks additional storage.
The property would become more valuable while our survival prospects steadily declined.
6) We Would Get Attached to the Monster
At first, we’d be frightened.
Then we’d learn its name.
Then we’d find one sad note explaining its past, and suddenly we’d be defending it to the rest of the group.
“Yes, I know it chased us through the kitchen, but nobody here has made an effort to understand it.”
Someone would point out that it ate the electrician. We’d say the situation is complicated.
7) We Would Stay for One More Thing
We were leaving. Truly.
Then we remembered the unfinished task, the locked room, the item we meant to collect, and the person we hadn’t spoken to.
A cozy gamer can turn a five-minute job into an evening without any supernatural assistance. Give us a mystery and a checklist, and the haunted house might as well put our name on the mailbox.
The final scene would be someone yelling, “GET OUT!”
And us answering, “I am. I’m just doing this first.”
Happy Halloween From Pixel Blanket 🎃🖤🕸️
Whether tonight involves horror games, decorating a virtual house, or watching somebody else get chased because you know your limits, I hope it’s a good one.
And if a suspicious little animal leads you toward an abandoned cottage, please consider the danger.
At the very least, save first.
Which one gives you away: the haunted-house bargain, the collectible, or the monster you insist you can fix?
