Grave Seasons Is Stardew Valley With a Serial Killer You Can Romance

There are already plenty of farming games where you grow vegetables, befriend the locals and slowly become the only competent person in town. Grave Seasons looked at that perfectly peaceful formula and decided the town also needed a supernatural serial killer.

Even worse, the killer could be the attractive neighbor you have been showering with gifts all season. Dating is hard enough without having to ask whether your crush is mysterious in a fun way or currently hiding evidence.

Developed by Perfect Garbage and published by Blumhouse Games and Solo Game, Grave Seasons is an upcoming farming life sim, murder mystery and supernatural horror game set in the mountain town of Ashenridge.

You will farm, fish, mine, craft, investigate murders and romance townspeople while trying to determine which resident is killing their neighbors. It sounds like Stardew Valley accidentally moved into a Blumhouse movie, and I mean that as the highest possible compliment. Here is everything we currently know about the Grave Seasons release date, gameplay, romance options, changing killers and platforms.

What Is Grave Seasons?

In Grave Seasons, you play as Dara, a customizable escaped convict attempting to start over as a farmer. Dara arrives in a prison jumpsuit, which is not ideal when you are trying to convince an entire town that you are simply here to grow turnips and mind your business. Unfortunately, the quiet new life plan lasts about five minutes because somebody in Ashenridge is a supernatural serial killer.

The game combines traditional farming-sim activities with a full murder investigation. You can grow seasonal crops, forage, fish, explore mines, cook, upgrade tools and improve your farm. At the same time, you must search for evidence, learn the residents' secrets and craft occult items that could protect the killer's next target. Your carrots are not merely a cute source of income anymore. They may somehow become part of an active criminal investigation.

According to the official Steam page, you have one in-game year to uncover the truth and save as many people as possible. You can also choose not to save everyone and simply let chaos take over. Ashenridge believes in providing options.

When Is the Grave Seasons Release Date?

Grave Seasons does not currently have an exact release date. The game was originally scheduled for August 14, 2026, but that launch was delayed. Its official Steam listing now gives only a broad 2026 release window.

The developers previously said they were targeting fall 2026 after postponing the August release, but a replacement date has not been confirmed. A planned Steam demo was also cancelled so the team could focus on preparing the full game for launch. In other words, the town murders have been delayed for quality control. Recent developer interview coverage also confirms that the original August date is no longer current.

Players can currently wishlist Grave Seasons on Steam. Until Perfect Garbage announces a new date, any website still listing August 14 is working with outdated information.

Does the Grave Seasons Killer Change Each Playthrough?

The killer is not permanently assigned to one character. At the beginning of a new game, Grave Seasons selects a supernatural killer from a pool of possible candidates. Each candidate has a fully written campaign with a different motive, method and list of intended victims.

This is not a randomly generated story made from interchangeable clues. The developers have created separate narrative campaigns for the different killers. The active murderer changes the evidence you can discover, the people placed in danger and the way the mystery develops.

That means reading one spoiler online should not automatically ruin every future playthrough. It also means the sweet villager who was completely innocent in your first save could become deeply suspicious in the next one. Ashenridge is not the town for confidently telling your friends, “No, trust me, they would never do that.”

Can You Romance the Killer in Grave Seasons?

Romance is a major part of Grave Seasons, but falling for someone comes with a fairly serious occupational hazard. Because the active killer can be selected from the town's residents, your chosen romantic interest may also be the person behind the murders.

You will build relationships through familiar life-sim activities such as talking, completing requests, giving gifts and experiencing character stories. However, getting close to people also helps with the investigation. Learning their routines, relationships and secrets may reveal who is in danger or who has been lying to you.

The game is interested in moral ambiguity rather than placing one obviously evil stranger beside the crime scene with a blood-covered pitchfork. If the killer is someone Dara loves, discovering the truth may not produce one simple heroic answer. Finally, a farming game understands that some of us see a suspicious romance candidate and immediately begin planning the wedding.

Your Choices Decide Who Lives and Who Dies

Character deaths are not limited to one fixed storyline. Your decisions can determine whether residents survive, and either outcome may unlock different scenes and storylines. Saving a character preserves the stories connected to their future. Losing them can reveal an entirely different side of Ashenridge.

The game autosaves important decisions, so you cannot necessarily test a terrible idea and quietly reload as if it never happened. You will need to live with the consequences, which is a bold feature for players who normally restart an entire day because they accidentally gave somebody a disliked vegetable.

Protecting the town also requires more than identifying the killer. You must learn enough about Ashenridge's relationships to predict who could be targeted next. Farming, crafting and foraging contribute to this process because certain items can help ward off supernatural threats.

Farming Is Still an Important Part of the Game

Despite all the murder, Grave Seasons remains a proper farming and life simulation game. Your farm sits at the top of the mountain, where you can:

  • Grow seasonal crops using different farm plots.

  • Cook recipes and craft items in your kitchen or shed.

  • Create occult objects that may protect potential victims.

  • Upgrade your tools and farm buildings.

  • Customize parts of the farm's appearance.

  • Discover pieces of Ashenridge's history while farming and foraging.

The farming system is not merely a cheerful distraction placed beside the mystery. Crops, ingredients and crafted items can contribute to your investigation. You are not abandoning the farm every time somebody dies. You are apparently expected to solve the murder and finish watering before bedtime.

Ashenridge Is Much Bigger Than One Suspicious Farm Town

The official description promises more than 30 residents and over 70 interior locations. Ashenridge is divided into seven major areas, including your farm, the mountainside, forest, local district, commercial district, coast and docks, and mines.

Locations and residents can change depending on the season, the active killer and which characters remain alive. Exploring homes may uncover clues, although entering places where you are not welcome can damage relationships if you are caught. Apparently, “I was looking for evidence” does not make breaking into your neighbor's bedroom socially acceptable.

This changing town structure should make repeat playthroughs feel meaningfully different. A new killer creates a different campaign, while previous choices determine which character stories you ever get to see.

Is Grave Seasons Actually a Cozy Game?

Grave Seasons contains farming, decorating, crafting, romance and community building, but it is not designed to be completely gentle. The developers have made it clear that the horror is not being watered down to keep the game traditionally cozy. There will be murder scenes, blood, unsettling environments and serious consequences.

The farming portions instead act as relief between the darker events. You can return to familiar routines, work on your land and build relationships, but the threat never completely disappears. It is cozy in the same way watching a horror movie under your favorite blanket is cozy. The blanket is lovely. The person standing behind the main character is not.

What Platforms Will Grave Seasons Be On?

Grave Seasons is planned for:

  • PC through Steam.

  • PlayStation 5.

  • Xbox Series X and S.

  • Nintendo Switch.

  • Xbox Game Pass on release day.

The developers have been working toward launching the game across its planned platforms at the same time. Platform availability can still change before release, so players should check the official store listing when the new launch date is announced.

Why Grave Seasons Is Already One of the Most Interesting Cozy Games of 2026

Plenty of games have added darker stories to the farming-sim formula, but Grave Seasons is building its entire structure around uncertainty. The killer can change, victims can survive or die, romances can become part of the investigation and a new playthrough can reveal a different version of the town.

That gives players a reason to replay beyond choosing another spouse or redesigning the farm. One save could become a heroic murder investigation. Another could end with Dara knowingly dating the killer and tending crops while the rest of Ashenridge considers moving immediately.

There is still plenty we will not know until the game releases, including how smoothly all those branching stories connect. For now, however, Grave Seasons has one of the strongest premises in the 2026 cozy-game lineup. It understands that farming-game players enjoy romance, community and repetitive chores. It simply adds the possibility that the person receiving your homemade jam is wanted for several supernatural homicides.
